Blogging for Medical Career

0
My very desire in life, aside from wanting to be a medical doctor, is to be a professional writer - to be part of an international magazine or news peg, or just anything which involves writing. However, my mum doesn't allow me to take a journalism course or any related course to writing. I do not know why. But then, I just realized, I still can write and make the whole world read what I wanted to tell even I didn't finish a writing-related degree. I am a Bachelor of Science in Biology graduate and currently in a Medical School, pursuing my desire to be a professional forensic medicine, yet I still can do writing - my passion thru the blogosphere - my blogs.

As I started my blog, it was last July of 2007, I was blind enough on search engine optimization and the like. One friend of mine, also a blogger, introduced me some technical things in blogging or website making specifically the web directory. I still do not have pay-outs from blogging that time, so I just utilized free web directory instead. And boom! My blog, walkingnewspaper, got surprising back links for just 3 months. Thence, it reached PR 3. Lower, to think, though, however, for a baby blog of 3 months, PR 3 is enough and worth celebrating.

Why I firstly worked on web directories? Actually, web directories are listing of web sites (blogs) into categories and even on subcategories. Once your web site is listed on specific web directory, for instance, dmoz or the botw, such web site will be linked to other web sites and then categorized.

After web directory, I then worked on search engine optimization of my blog. My friend referred some SEO friendly web directory. Indeed, great directory.

Having my new blog - medical blog, last November 2008, I also worked on backlinks and SEO only a month after because of school-hindering activities. Though I worked for it late, still worthy to have a cup of coffee because I had my medical blog's PR 2 last April 2009.

Now? I am happily blogging (writing) while playing with me my medical career. Thanks to my mum!

Waving Bye to the American Football Quarterback McNair

2
Football is a no no to me. However, I used to watch football games on television aside from my basketball frustration.

Last July 4, the American Football Quarterback Steve McNair was found dead with a gunshot which wounded his head in the Nashville Tennessee downtown condominium. According to the police report, a pistol was found near a woman who was also dead.

The family of McNair is planning to have his body autopsied. Hoping to solve this case the soonest. Surely, not just Steve's family is mourning now, the football world does also.

So sad, isn't it?

Oh no! Now that one of my fave football players has died, I don't know if I could still have the eagerness to watch football games. Actually, there was a time, I could still remember, even I had an exam the next day of McNair's game, I still watched their game on television.

My condolences to the football world and to the McNair family.

Do Books Make Sense in Medical Schools?

4
I am still a first year medical student in one of the (I proudly say) prestigious school in the whole world, Silliman University Medical School. Though, medical school in Silliman University is still a baby - we're still on our 5th year this academic year, I still can prove that the university's medical curriculum is highly competitive in the medical schools in the world.

Today, marks my 12th day in medical school, officially. I already have met a almost all of our teacher-doctors and known them somehow especially those who were our teachers in our subjects this semester. I could say that they are really one of a kind, each one of them in their respective medical fields.

Good enough that the university medical school has its very intelligent way of learning process to us-students. What our university did in our subjects is that, in each part of the subjects different consultants (doctor practitioners) are assigned in each part or chapters in that subject of their chosen fields. For instance, in our Anatomy class, in the musculoskeletal chapters, Dr. Katada, an orthopedic surgeon is our teacher. He'll teach us only the musculoskeletal part of the Anatomy class, other parts, like the Neuroanatomy will be taught by Neurosurgeons. This is also the same to our other subjects like Physiology, Histology, Biochemistry and other subjects.

Well, as what many has been saying, being in a medical school is not a joke. It's definitely of very far different from the undergraduate (college) years. If I suffered a lot (stresses, crammings and depressions) in my years in UP, to the nth times in medical school. Thinking of those a chapter a day of lesson, then the following day will be an exam or 5-chapter quiz which is only for 10 items, much with 3 to 4 subjects of quizzes and 2 exams a day, how do a fresh graduate would able to readily adapt such way of studying 10 chapters a night?

Nevertheless, READING and only READING, I mean, ADVANCE READING is what our teacher-doctors are always reminding and that is with COMPREHENSION for us to be able to cope up the fast-pace in medical school. Off course, as a trying hard medical student and a wanna-be-(ambitious) doctors, what we are doing is to READ, READ, READ, READ with COMPREHENSION those books that we sweaty looked over different bookstore in the country.

However, personally, I am just somehow embarrassed, I do not know if I can call it embarrassed or pissed off, or should I say, I just felt uncomfortable after having an exam this afternoon, we, with our teacher discussed the answers for the exam. She was having different answer from what the book has been telling. We asked her about it, but she explained something more differently from the fact yet the book that we referred is the one that she used as a reference also.

I do not know then how to react. I just told to myself that I would never trust any book from now on! haha! pathetic!

Ambitious Dream

I used to have a lot of things dancing around my mind especially when I got nothing to do. Haha. It makes me, emotionally, relaxed and feeling comfortable. What I used to dream and think of are things I supposed to have now if I didn't enroll in a medical school. Funny, sometimes. But I am pretty sure that I am happy with what I'm doing especially when I am bored.

Since then, I used to dream of having my rest house the US. My mum agreed with me then when I first shared to her 'bout what I wanted to have. But off course, as she pointed clearly, that I must first be a doctor before I could have those luxurious things. haha!

Anyway, I really wanted to have my rest house in the US, specifically in Texas. In fact, I already have my own sketch of my house. hehe! I know I am ambitious enough to have these things for now, haha, but who knows, maybe tomorrow or the other days to come, you guys would only being me in photographs with my mansion-like dream rest house in Texas? haha!

I, myself, is really looking forward for some exciting things to have and to achieve. I am even looking for quality-conscious contractors online to work with my house. hehe. I bumped into Houston garage doors to work for my garage only. Take note, that is only for my garage. For other settings and parts of my mansion, maybe I could hire an engineer and an architect. wehehehe!

Oh no! C'mon gagay, better asleep! haha!
